Today we launch the new ComicScene Art Challenge for both professional and amateur comic artists. To celebrate 70 years of Eagle and Dan Dare we are asking you to design an Eagle relaunch cover for 2020.
It’s up to you if you utilise Eagle and Dan Dare from the 50’s, the 2000AD Years, the 80’s or subsequent versions of the iconic character. Alternatively you may wish to give the comic and character a complete 21st Century overhaul!
We have four judges who will choose their top three covers each. They are;
Pat Mills – creator of 2000AD and characters such as Slaine. He brought back Dan Dare for the launch of 2000AD and wrote stories for the 80’s Eagle. Pat is about to launch his new title Space Warp in 2020.
Barrie Tomlinson – former editor of Eagle and responsible for the 1980’s relaunch. Barrie was also editor of several other comic titles including Roy of the Rovers.
Lizzie Boyle – Lizzie makes comics and is a writer and editor for Rebellion. Last year she helped relaunch Tammy & Jinty.
Steve MacManus – Arguably the best Tharg of all and 2000AD editor during the comics golden age. Steve went on to launch Crisis and recently wrote the Sheerglam Conspiracy and a book about his life in the 2000AD Nerve Centre.
Deadline for entries as a low res and hi res jpeg and pdf is Monday 6th April 2020. Please email us at comicsceneuk@gmail.com if you intend to submit an entry anytime from now until that date.
All entries will feature in our online Eagle and Dan Dare Gallery 2020, in the pages of ComicScene and winners win £50 each! All the judges winners announced on Tuesday 14th April 2020 – exactly 70 years after Eagle was launched. Good luck!
