ComicScene Review: Roy of the Rovers Teamwork & Foul Play

Out now is the second Tom Palmer ‘Roy of the Rovers’ novel ‘Teamwork’ and the second graphic novel from Rob Williams and Ben Willsher ‘Foul Play’. Does the half time team talk in the dressing room impress as much as last years first half? The answer is a resounding yes.

There is a slight niggle in that aspects of the novel are repeated in the graphic novel, but it’s hard to see how you can juggle both without that happening. At least you get a resolution to the novels cliff hanger in the graphic novel and also get to see Roy play alongside an old friend from the classic comics.

Things are moving so fast on the pitch it’s going to be interesting to see how these books progress. Certainly you get the impression that off the pitch there is the option to explore even more challenging storylines that may affect a number of the supporting characters as well as Roy himself.

We are certainly loving forward to the second half and the third novel ‘Playoffs’ and graphic novel ‘Going Up’. We may even be lucky and get some extra time with social media posts reporting season two storylines are already being worked on.

So make sure you get your hands on these books. They are fabulous!

Oh, and don’t forget you can read more about Roy of the Rovers in Issues 1 & 2 of ComicScene UK Magazine http://www.comicscene.tictail.com
