The new Ready Player One: The Graphic Novel adapts Ernest Cline’s novel into a 320-page, full-colour graphic novel, illustrated by Meredith Laxton and adapted by Scott Peterson. It is being released in the UK on today the 6 October 2026.

In 2045, the real world is bleak and most people spend their lives inside the OASIS, an enormous virtual-reality universe. Teenager Wade Watts is one of millions obsessed with finding a hidden Easter egg left behind by the OASIS’s late creator, James Halliday.

Halliday has promised his fortune and control of the OASIS to whoever can solve a sequence of puzzles inspired by the pop culture he loved. When Wade unexpectedly cracks the first clue, he becomes the target of rival hunters and the powerful corporation IOI, whose operatives are prepared to kill to win.

What begins as an online treasure hunt becomes a dangerous battle across both the virtual and real worlds, forcing Wade to rely on his knowledge, his friends and his courage if he is to reach Halliday’s prize first.

The graphic novel is essentially a visual adaptation of Cline’s original book rather than the Spielberg film, so it returns to the novel’s version of Wade’s quest and Halliday’s challenges.

It’s available at all good bookshops and Amazon from Penguin Random House / Del Ray / Cornerstone for £25 in hardback.
