What is ShortBox? It’s an independent curated comics box publishing 5 original, new comic books, and an exclusive fabric art screenprint. This is our twelfth box, with many of our previous titles winning industry awards, and the publisher itself is Eisner and Ignatz award-nominated. Our past artists include Emily Carroll, James Stokoe, Jen Lee, Lissa Treiman and many more.
ShortBox #12 was Fully funded within 24 hours on Kickstarter, all orders placed before the 20th of May will be delivered direct to the customers door – without worrying about social distancing!
This box has an all-women creator list: Aminder Dhaliwal (of Woman World fame), Allissa Chan (a fan-favourite), Charlotte Mei (founder of the Clay Club in London), Emma Hunsinger (of The New Yorker), Núria Martinez (an incredible up-and-comer), and the exclusive screenprint is by the esteemed Jillian Tamaki (This One Summer, Boundless, SuperMutant Magic Academy). Of the 6 women creators, 3 identify as gay, and 4 are women of colour.
Diversity has long been at the core of ShortBox – the publisher and curator, Zainab Akhtar, is the UK’s only Muslim woman comic publisher. Zainab appeared on BBC Radio Leeds this week to talk about this box in particular, and her experience as a whole. Their previews usually feature in The Hollywood Reporter, AV Club, and on the major comic websites.
As said, their latest box is fully funded. Each box costs £35, with worldwide shipping and domestic distribution within the UK and US. Shipping has been reduced for the US and Canada given current world circumstances. Subsequent to box delivery, the comics will be available individually via their website.
