10 REASONS TO BACK A COMIC KICKSTARTER – and a guide to what a kickstarter is!

Many comic fans still don’t understand what a ‘Kickstarter’ is. Here’s our mini guide and ten reasons why you should support them.

1 – A comic Kickstarter is simply like pre ordering a comic. Join the pre launch page and then pledge for the comic when it goes LIVE
2 – Your support of a Kickstarter supports a creator to produce, print and distribute the comic themselves.
3 – Funds after printing and postage goes direct to the creative team.
4 – This means the creative team avoid 50% of their comic book going to distributors and sellers like newsagents.
5 – The finished product will get delivered to your door!
6 – The comic book may cost slightly more but it will be part of a limited run exclusive to Kickstarter and may become a collectors item.
7 – Along with the comic you can get extra rewards. These can include artwork, sketches, script pages, prints etc – all collectors items
8 – If the creator reaches their goal they can add stretch goals. These can be more collectibles or they can enhance the comic by more pages or improve the production like making it perfect bound or better quality paper.
9 – You get regular updates via Kickstarter (or alternative crowdfunding platforms) about the production of the comic.
10 – Raising funds on kickstarter usually takes a month and depending on the target can be funded in a day or over the whole month. If it’s not close to pay day at the launch of the Kickstarter you can ask for a reminder to support the project before the end date. You only pay if the comic meets target.

Our recent Kickstarter for Ragtime Soldier is complete and we raised £19000 of a £17000 goal. We have upgraded the standard 48 page stapled comic to a 60 page perfect bound graphic novel thanks to your support. Kickstarter now offers ‘late pledges’ which means you can keep the Kickstarter going after it meets target and ends. We have kept Ragtime Soldier open until 7th April at 19:00. We have already had some latecomers to the project – take a look! Link to the Kickstarter below…
