COMIC CONS – YOUR TOP 10 TIPS

As the ComicCon season starts again here is our top 10 tips for a successful day (or two) out!

1 – Manage your costs of table, travel, accommodation, food and drink. Unless the Comic Con is a loss leader and a chance to meet friends.
2 – Go with a friend if you can so you can take a break when you need it. Being on your feet for a day or two can be back breaking. Get to know your neighbours so they can keep their eye on your stall if you need it.
3 – Keep standing at your table, don’t look at your mobile phone and have something engaging going on like someone sketching for you.
4 – Remember a table cloth.
5 – Have rise and fall on your table, stands so your comics aren’t all flat and a few enticing offers.
6 – Make sure you have a back drop or roller banner. They are very cheap to produce and have a big impact. Those roller banners that are £90 will last longer than a £40 one so can get used again and again.
7 – Set up early and have a look around other tables with comics in your hands – you can perhaps swap comics with other sellers and make friends for life.
8 – Make sure you can take debit and credit cards as well as having a cash float. If you can make a £6.99 comic £6.50 or £6 then do it. Avoid fiddley change.
9 – Prepare to offer a discount for multiple copies. Remember if your comic was on sale in a shop you’d lose half the cover price anyway.
10 – Some good comic cons in the U.K. and Ireland we have heard about are Liverpool and London, Swapmeets, Enniskillen, Lawless, The Lakes, MacPoww and Thought Bubble.

You may know of others or perhaps your experience hasn’t been great at those mentioned. You may have other tips to share too! Let us know in comments below…
