Look what we found…

Was searching around the ‘net and found these great pictures of two masters of British comics meeting at the launch of the ‘Great War Dundee’ several years ago. The great and very much missed Ian Kennedy and Pat Mills had worked together before on Eagle Readers Dan Dare. Now Ian (well known for covers on Commando and many other titles) was doing the cover of the Great War Dundee which featured the first Ragtime Soldier strip. ComicScene got involved when we printed the Great War Dundee in our newsstand magazine, giving it an even wider distribution to comic fans. Jump forward five years and we suggested to Patrick Mills Gary Welsh Phillip Vaughan and Chris Murray that we were interested in seeing the complete story of the successor to Charley’s War and why didn’t we get together and do a Kickstarter to publish it. From that conversation came this Ragtime Soldier graphic novel, just in time for Battles 50th anniversary. Of course Pat is the Godfather of British Comics and Gary had gone to bigger and better things for 2000AD and the popular Still Game book. But Gary found time in his schedule as Pat wanted him back again for the story he had wanted to tell for many years. The Kickstarter was going to be a tall ask but here we are, a few days away from the end of the crowdfunder and very close to the final target. Thanks to everyone who has supported this new and unique book – either by making a pledge, kind words or sharing it to other classic comic fans, friends and family. It’s going to be very special, covering the front lines and home front, and this version of the book and the collectibles that go with it will only be available on Kickstarter (including two new ComicScene magazines). Pledge before it’s too late – or Kirsty from the Cooncil will be after you (and THAT’S another story!) http://kck.st/4hC7oNw
