Alan Henderson has officially announced the end of Penned Guins on social media (although he mentioned it on a Podcast last year).
His full statement is here. These strips are very funny and have raised a chuckle in ComicScene Towers – check out their Facebook page here
“Ok deep breath.
So. It’s out there now.
I’ve made the statement that the Penned Guin is coming to an end.
Whether you want to call is 12 years or 2500+ daily strips it’s a body of work. You might not have enjoyed all of it but surely there was something in there for everyone – ok you at the back who just said ‘no’ see me after this.
But why end it? I could tell you that I’ve become bitter and twisted by the algorithm as well as the splintering of social media – all of which means reaching an audience is just more and more difficult. But the truth is I’m just tired and I’m not sure just how many (family friendly) jokes are left to put into the three panel form.
I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved – we being me and the penguins, there really is something odd when you start referring to your characters as being in the room with you, it’s even weird when they start talking back …
We’ve built a small and loyal following – you know who you are – who press the like/share/comment buttons and have stuck with us.
We’ve had some great critical reviews – for which I can only thank those who made the effort.
We’ve even made it so two dots and a greater than sign can make the reader think of our work –
..

So what’s happening now – firstly there are still a handful of new strips to come before the fat penguin sings.
Then our final book “The Bell” will be launching via Kickstarter later in January. When it tolls – it tolls for the Penned Guin.
I will keep posting replays and repeats on the various socials and I’ve got a garage of books to sell so expect to see me hawking my wares.
… and (Dr) Who knows – comebacks are always possible.
Let me stop here – thank you for reading the Penned Guin, thank you for the support, thank you for putting up with my stupid humour and I just hope we put a smile on your face from time to time.
