There is a history of comics in Scotland (which misses out small press of the mid 80’s / early 90’s who used Clydeside Press – but that’s another story for another day!) and 20 more pages to read in this great resource here. It’s good to see!

Dave Cook, who developed Killtopia, had published his updated edition of my free eBook guide, Crowdfunding Comics.
With over £150k raised since 2014 and 10+ years experience as an online marketer, the book covers planning, marketing, running and fulfilling a comic Kickstarter.
It’s worth £3 and you can get it here.

In one weeks time Colin Maxwell, who wrote the Kirknewton Story (funded by Heritage Lottery Scotland), talks about writing War Comics. Join the event here and for Book Week Scotland Alan Moore is doing an interview too! Details here

BHP comics are running the Edinburgh Comic Art Fair this weekend and many indie comic creators will be there and in a couple more weeks the Tags Festival will be on. Details https://tagsfest.co.uk/

ComicScene are based in Scotland and the magazine returns in print next week – order it here. It’s 100 pages including the 14 page Comic Industry Directory with contacts for schools, libraries and community groups of writers and artists for commissions, workshops and talks. There’s also advice on Crowdfunders, Young Graphic Novels and Manga for the classroom, features and Stephen White has done a 9 page short story featuring Tara Togs. You will see her here first – it will be a collectors item! His 64 page Tara Togs graphic novel was funded by Creative Scotland and we hope to publish it next year!

You can also access the Comic Industry Directory online with details of how to be included here
And yes we did print small press back in the day! We even brought back one of the old titles using modern techniques recently – ATOMIC. Get it in the Shift Store with all our other titles, including ComicScene, here. And that story will be continued…
