Myles Sullivan on Monster Fun

Wearing down my recent comic stack, with two issues of Monster Fun. It is enjoyable enough. The September issue I found in Tesco in the children’s comics section wihich is way better than Smith’s who place it with 2000 AD and the others.

These were solid comics a good mixture of humour stories and action stories. The action stories still had an element of humour to them, and worked well on the whole.

Many of the stories are from yesteryear, with a modern twist; Gums, Kid Kong, Martha’s Monster Makeup, the Steel Commando, Hire a Horror, Draculass, Frankie Stein and my personal favourite The Leopard of Lime Street. There are some new strips Hells Angel, Witch vs Warlock (I think) and the adventure humour strip Spaced Invaded.

Purists will argue it’s not what it was in the 70s, but then neither is the Beano. I think the updates are great, the art on the whole is fab, (I’m not a fan of the Steel Commandos art though I don’t hate it).

This has recently gone monthly and as a loyal fan of IPC/Rebellion I want this to do well! As I said I’ve found it in Tesco as well as Smiths so that should help. I’m hopeful but not sure…. Fingers crossed.
