Garth Ennis & Jacen Burrow’s Ribbon Queen Review

The Ribbon Queen starts out as a fairly standard Garth Ennis crime thriller – if you have read Red Team, you’ll likely know how good he is at doing police  procedural thrillers. This is set at the height of the #me2 movement and explores themes of misogyny and police corruption, only for Garth to flip things dramatically on their head, by introducing some pretty shocking supernatural elements. The ending of issue #1 melts your eyes with a truly shocking slice of body horror – the kind of thing artist Jacen Burrows is well known for.

If you like modern day horror that cleverly intertwines relevant socio-political narratives in a unique and non-preachy manner, but most of all if you enjoy great storytelling, incredible dialogue and stunning artwork, The Ribbon Queen is for you. I read it online at golabalcomix.com
