ComicScene Review: Quantum Issue 3

The strongest cover yet for Time Bomb Comics ‘Quantum’ title. Issue 3 has hit the shops and back issues can be found here.

‘Major Rakhana‘ opens proceedings with a strong steampunk fuelled tale from Steve Tanner and Roland Bird. It’s great to see a strong rebellious female character with a cheeky line in wicked double entendres in a well established Victorian space world. Shades of Dan Dare make her a focal character for the title but as the Pilot of the Future seems to have fallen out of favour over time (73 years to be exact) I hope Rakhana can overcome such comparisons.

Strong episodes from WESTERNoir and Memphis but, unexpectedly, my favourite strip remains ‘Whatever Happened To The Worlds Fastest Man?’ by Dave West and Marleen Starksfield Lowe’. The pure indie feel doesn’t quite fit within the traditional comic strip stories of Quantum, but it does not feel out of place either. I hope there is a satisfying end that will make it an enjoyable little nugget.

This week alone we have reviewed a number of Time Bomb Comics and the workload to produce them and this bi monthly title can only be applauded. I can’t believe we are at Issue 3 already and they must feel the same. Where does the time go?
