ComicScene launch new 2022 Comic Awards – with a twist

Last year ComicScene cancelled their Awards due to Covid – but this year they have announced their Awards are to return for early 2022. With a twist.

Tony Foster explains, “We see comic making as a collaborative process. So rather than awards from individual writers, artists, colourists, letterers, editors, publishers and genres our annual awards will now be different than others. We won’t give you a list of pre selected choices or differentiate between major publishers, small press, when a comic was published or a particular country.”

“We ask all comic readers and creators to simply sign up to our email list here and in the month of November you will be asked to give us your favourite Top 5 comics that you have read from January 2020 to November 2021. This will reflect that people read new material but also, particularly during lockdown, revisited some old favourites too. In January we will announce the nominations and in February we will announce what ten comics readers have chosen for the ComicScene Award 2022 in our ‘I ❤️ Comics’ event.

“There will be some weighting on comics if self published to create a level playing field alongside major publishers but we expect the Top 10 will reflect comics here and now and from the past.”

“I hope the ComicScene Awards will be seen as awards which capture the true diverse nature of comics but recognise the team work that goes into producing them.”
