The family of Dennis ‘Denny’ O’Neil has announced the sad news that he has died at the age of 81.

Along with Neil Adams O’Neil has to be credited with rebooting Batman after the camp TV show, which led to the Dark Knight as we know him today. He created Ra’s Al Ghul and his daughter Talia and had successful runs on Green Lantern, Green Arrow and the Question. In the mid 80’s he cemented his career with reprints of once groundbreaking comics depicting drug use as comics ‘grew up’ and wrote the quite brilliant Question series which led to the challenging and highly creative Vertigo line.

Denny O’Neil is one of the names you just associate with quality DC comics, despite a spell at Marvel where he was a big influence on Frank Millers ‘Daredevil’ run. He’s been there forever and his work celebrated time and again. May his stories always be given the credit they deserve.
