Highest Doctor Who viewing figures in a decade

The debut of Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor Who was 8.2 million people last night – the highest new Doctor premiere in over a decade.

6.8 million people watched Peter Capaldi’s first episode in 2014, 7.7 watched Matt Smith in 2010 and David Tennant had 8 million viewers in the 2006 Christmas Special. The episode did fall short of Christopher Eccleston’s first appearance in 2005 of 9.9 million.

The recent hit series the Bodyguard has a debut of 6.7 million, so this is fantastic news for the series.

The viewing figures expect to be higher for the new Sunday night slot once views on iPlayer and other online and streaming services are taken into consideration.

Our review of the programme can be found on our Doctor Who Twitter feed (see below) and you can also read about the Doctor and Doctor Who comics each month in our monthly magazine ComicScene UK. Get on board with back issues and new issues at http://www.comicscene.tictail.com
